Responsibilities

GEO‑Instruments North America is seeking a hands‑on, resourceful Field Technician to support instrumentation and monitoring work on major civil, mining, environmental, and infrastructure projects across Canada.

 

Field Technician – Geotechnical & Structural Instrumentation – Fort McMurray, AB

  • Contract position
  • Rotational shift: 14 days on / 14 days off
  • Deployment to Fort McMurray
  • Possibility of being assigned to other job sites across Canada

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, test, and commission geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments on project sites.
  • Configure dataloggers, communication systems, and project databases.
  • Collect field data, perform quality checks, and troubleshoot issues on site.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and fellow field technicians.
  • Interact professionally with clients during site coordination and daily operations.
  • Prepare field reports, installation documentation, and as‑built information.
  • Manage logistics including equipment preparation, inventory, and site planning.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety procedures and site requirements.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering Technology (or equivalent).
  • Experience with surveying, instrumentation, or monitoring systems (asset).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with networking, electronics, and AutoCAD (assets).
  • Strong organization, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Comfortable traveling extensively and working outdoors on active job sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain required safety certifications.
