Overview

Intermediate Field Surveyor - Geotechnical Instrumentation & Monitoring

 

Location:  Mississauga, Ontario (based in the field)

Reports To:  Area Manager / Field Operations Lead

 

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Intermediate Field Surveyor with a strong background in geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring to join our growing team in Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing field survey activities, ensuring accurate installation, calibration, and maintenance of geotechnical instrumentation, and providing high-quality monitoring data to support infrastructure, construction, and environmental projects.

 

This position involves both field and office work, with regular travel to various project sites across Ontario. This role will report to our office is Mississauga, Ontario. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct precise topographic, geotechnical, and construction surveys in support of instrumentation and monitoring programs.
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain geotechnical instruments such as piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, strain gauges, and data loggers.
  • Perform automated and manual monitoring, data collection, and validation using industry-standard software and instruments.
  • Support the design and layout of monitoring networks and survey control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and data analysts to ensure data integrity and timely reporting.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Document field activities through detailed notes, survey logs, and photographs.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior field staff.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of field survey experience, preferably in geotechnical or civil engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation and monitoring systems (e.g., vibrating wire, MEMS sensors, total stations, GNSS, dataloggers).
  • Proficiency with surveying equipment and software (Trimble, Leica, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS tools).
  • Strong understanding of survey control, coordinate systems, and data accuracy standards.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and willingness to travel to various sites across the province.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.

Assets (Preferred):

  • Experience with remote or automated monitoring systems.
  • Familiarity with construction monitoring, slope stability, or tunneling projects.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., OLS, CET, or pending certification) is an asset.

  • Candidates should be willing to travel temporarily within Ontario and to the province of Quebec to perform tasks related to the company’s projects.
