Overview

The Area Manager-BC is accountable for leading and managing Keller’s operations in Pacific Canada, ensuring safety, and overseeing project execution. In collaboration with senior leadership, the Area Manager formulates strategic initiatives to achieve growth and profitability, ensure quality, while steadfastly upholding Keller’s core values of Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the BC office, ensuring effective communication between Safety, Operations, HR, Accounting, and upper management for seamless coordination.
  • Review and manage project performance and financial status weekly, preparing detailed projections and discussing financials with the Sr. VP and VP of Finance.
  • Lead succession planning by identifying and grooming talent, developing career paths, providing mentorship, implementing training, and taking corrective actions as necessary for long-term team sustainability.
  • Promote company integrity, ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion align with Keller's core values, while actively supporting a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
  • Recruit and develop personnel by working with HR to meet operational needs and grow team capabilities through training, promotions, and mentorship.
  • Assess and mitigate risks by ensuring safety protocols are reviewed, adhered to, and aligned with company requirements across all project sites and regional offices.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory aspects, including contracts, claims, and risk management practices, in collaboration with legal teams.
  • Prepare profitability strategies by adapting to changes, optimizing budgets, achieving revenue targets, and maintaining profitability.
  • Drive business development by identifying growth opportunities, expanding market share, leveraging Keller’s global reach, and exploring innovative technologies for the BC region.
  • Strengthen client relationships by fostering collaboration with clients, contractors, and engineers to develop practical Ground Engineering solutions and expand the client base.
  • Oversee quality control by supervising bidding processes, project management practices, and ensuring project quality aligns with Keller’s lifecycle management policies and goals.
  • Mentor engineers and project managers, ensuring team cohesion and accountability while monitoring project schedules, costs, and resources to meet objectives.
  • Collaborate across regions with other Canadian Business Units to optimize labor and equipment usage, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Negotiate claims and disputes when necessary, ensuring favorable resolutions and compliance with project requirements.
  • Represent Keller in local associations, promoting the company’s capabilities and maintaining a strong local presence.
  • Travel as required for meetings, issue resolution, and supporting project needs to ensure goals are met.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer with 15+ years of experience in specialized construction technologies and project management for heavy construction projects.
  • Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; P.Eng designation or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in Keller technologies, including drilling (large and small diameter), SOE, anchors, jet grouting, CSM, and general contracting in the BC market.
  • 10+ years of geotechnical knowledge and construction techniques in the BC market.
  • 10+ years in Estimating and Project Management, skilled in client interaction, risk analysis, presentations, design management, and sales. Proficient in tracking project scope, schedule, quality, cost, and business development.
  • Proven leadership in overseeing client meetings, evaluating project opportunities, delivering presentations, and fostering relationships while maintaining a strategic focus on project acquisition and job costing.
  • Strong delegation and multitasking skills, with flexibility to manage changing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Client-focused and communicative, with exceptional oral and written skills, consistently anticipating and meeting client expectations.

Salary Range: $175,000 - $197,000
